Preseason Optimism

It’s that time of the year again: Preseason. The time of year when you have a glimmer of hope that your team has a chance at winning an elusive Premiership. Whether a player or a spectator, your optimism about the coming season has probably led to some odd behaviour. It’s a time of year when supporters of all teams are reading the newspaper from back to front, don’t worry for many that will end soon, so enjoy it whilst it lasts.

Elsternwick Oseto Melbourne - PreseasonAs an Essendon supporter I have been avoiding all media since 2012, but the start of a new season is infectious and I will inevitably watch the first few games with the kind of anticipation usually reserved for children on Easter morning. For those who play winter sports, you may have been training since December and this effort is about to be rewarded by reaching that goal: Round 1.

Hopefully all that hard work had paid off and you’re feeling fit. I play hockey, and as far as preseason is concerned I have come very late to the party. Apart from maintaining pretty good fitness throughout summer I managed to show my face about one month before the start of the season; this is very late for me and I can only hope that it doesn’t leave me with numerous injures throughout the year.

But a good warm up and cool down program should decrease my risk, as will a quick Osteo treatment for my low back and neck pain or maybe that’s just the stress of Essendon’s looming ASADA decision! Fingers crossed!

Good luck to all, and enjoy staying active over winter.
